After several cancellations and a few relocations, White Rose Movement must have finally deemed the atmosphere in New York suitably welcoming for a show. But before we get to tonight’s headliners Five O’Clock Heroes deserve an honourable mention. Playing a string of highly catchy songs, they have us dancing in no time, doing a better job than most in warming up a New York crowd.

Finn Vine and co then take to the stage with ‘Pig Heil Jam’ and confidently sweep along, riling everyone up with ‘Love Is A Number’, which is a stormer, and recent single ‘Girls In The Back’. Vine climbs the stage monitors frequently, directing the dancing masses with plenty of indie-tinged electronica.

Unfortunately they don’t stay for long, and bow off after playing barely 40 minutes of material, leaving everyone bereft, and needing more. We have to wonder if it’s the lack of a US record deal that made them exit so swiftly – though an offer was shouted out, it can hardly appear serious.

Maybe they’ll be back with a broader musical arsenal next time they step through here.

There’ve been quite a few bands that have taken the path to danceable rock – feel-good music that only requires scanty coordination and a bit of courage, perhaps. White Rose Movement happen to hail from London, and are named after the not-so-successful 1930′s German anti-fascist faction. It’s like an indie mix and match!

‘Love is a Number’ is not radically different from what’s already been offered by their predecessors, but it’s catchy enough to stand out. It’s the falsetto that seals the deal. Fast-paced, with appropriate pauses and somewhat unintelligible lyrics, it satisfies when you need to let loose.
