Having seen Goldfrapp a few days earlier supporting Depeche Mode, being none too pleased with the chilly reception (the weather was downright freezing however), the far away stage and lack of ever-entertaining backing dancers, tonight we’re completely appeased. This time around, not only are we in an intimate venue, but because it’s a ’special performance’, everyone’s there for one reason only – to see Goldfrapp.

Alison is on top form, posing with dramatic flair, her hair streaming in an artificial breeze thanks to strategically placed air fans at her feet, while belting out ‘Lovely Head’. She’s got her backup dancers with her, and although for some they’re too harsh in the otherwise pleasant stage view, they compliment the more upbeat tracks. ‘Satin Chic’, ‘Beautiful’ and ‘Ride A White Horse’ are played back-to-back; it’s like the golden trio, strobe lights flashing madly to the beat, daring you to dance till you drop.

The crowd is howling ecstatically for more, and gets an encore – then, after yet more stomping, persistence pays off and we’re treated to a second, featuring ‘Strict Machine’, and leaving the show complete.

Alison leaves the stage with many a bow, completely overwhelmed by the response, and thanking everyone profusely. We assure you, the feeling is mutual.
